Replace Fluorescent Light with LED
Consider NaturaLux™ light filters instead
If you, your office employees, or your students and teachers experience problems related to harsh lighting, you may have decided to replace your fluorescent light with LED light. Before you do this, the Make Great Light team urges you to consider other solutions, such as our NaturaLux™ light filters.
Who Is Make Great Light?
Make Great Light sells NaturaLux™ fluorescent and LED light filters that were invented by an eye specialist with over 30 years of experience in vision care. After listening to countless patient complaints of headaches and eyestrain attributed to fluorescent lighting, he sought a lasting solution.
Today, Make Great Light transforms classroom, office, hospital, and retail spaces with full-spectrum lighting that has a positive impact on students, teachers, patients, shoppers, and employees. NaturaLux™ light covers color-correct and color-balance the light, emulating the same colors found in natural light and making you feel like you’ve been out in the sunshine all day.
What is LED Lighting?
LED is the acronym for “light-emitting diodes,” an electrical advance that is popular for its superior energy efficiency. An electrical current passes through a microchip, illuminating the tiny light sources we call LEDs, and the result is visible light.
LED bulbs use only 20% of the energy of incandescent bulbs and last a lot longer than regular bulbs. But continual exposure to them has risks and can be especially damaging to the eye.
Our eyes perceive LED light as white light, but it is actually a colored light that is converted to white light. LED lights emit light from the blue and violet end of the visible light spectrum. The blue peak is unnaturally high and very unlike natural light.
Research indicates that high exposure to this light, even for a short time, can cause retinal changes in the eye, increasing the risk of cataracts and age-related macular degeneration. The flickering can also cause headaches.
Common Side Effects of LED Lighting
One of the reasons LED lights impact health, especially the frequency of migraine headaches, is the amount of blue light they emit.
Blue wavelengths are beneficial during the day because they improve alertness, reaction times, and mood, but they pose problems such as eye strain, migraines, and sleep disturbance. Here are some symptoms your LED lights can cause.
- Headaches & Migraines
- Insomnia
- Double Vision
- Dizziness
- Eye Strain
- Visual Disturbance
- Eye Damage
- Retinal Damage
- Melatonin Suppression
- Circadian Rhythm Disruption
- Photo Toxicity or Light Sensitivity
